Dental Anxiety and Sedation Options in Plano, TX
Dental care that starts with listening
Dental anxiety is common, and it should never be a reason to avoid the care you need. At David L. Baker DDS PA, we take time to understand your concerns, explain what to expect, and help you feel more prepared before treatment begins.
Sedation and comfort options are customized for adults and seniors based on health history, anxiety level, and the type of dental care being planned.
Nitrous oxide
Nitrous oxide, often called laughing gas, is a gentle sedative gas blended with oxygen and breathed through a small mask over the nose. It can help patients feel calmer during dental treatment while remaining awake and able to respond.
One reason many patients appreciate nitrous oxide is that the effects wear off quickly after the gas is turned off. For many patients, this makes it a helpful option for mild to moderate dental anxiety, a sensitive gag reflex, or routine treatment where they want to feel more relaxed.
Oral conscious sedation
Oral conscious sedation uses a prescribed sedative medication taken before the appointment. It is designed to create a deeper level of relaxation while the patient remains conscious and able to respond to basic instructions.
This option may be discussed for patients with severe dental anxiety, a low comfort threshold, longer appointments, or more involved treatment. Patients using oral conscious sedation need a designated companion to drive them to and from the office.
